EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio – Heritage Thermal Services announced its community-wide collection of household hazardous wastes today at a press conference at city hall.

Along with the other sponsors of citySweep, East Liverpool’s annual Earth Day event, President Chris Pherson announced, “The collection will be held on Saturday, April 22 from 7 a.m. to noon at our facility in the East End.”

The collection of household hazardous wastes, unused pharmaceuticals, old consumer electronics, light bulbs and batteries is offered free of charge to area residents, he added.

Since the first community collection in 1997, facility employees have recycled or disposed of more than 197 tons of household chemical wastes and old electronics that otherwise would have been poured down the drain or tossed in the trash.

During the collection, Pherson and a special guest will distribute more than $6,500 in grant checks to school and non-profit groups to help fund worthy environmental projects. Since the company initiated the program in 1998, more than 100 organizations have received more than $80,000 in grants.
